Do Not Wake the Dreamer

This morning I leaned over you
Looked into your face but
Could not see your eyes
Because they were closed.
Where you were, I do not know
But I reveled in the presence.
You were smiling, a long look
Of joy and satisfaction
Ran across your face.
You were relaxed inside
And I enjoyed seeing your
Skin soft, without
The tightness it had adopted of late.

You must have felt me there
As I watched you move your head
Ever so slightly
From side to side and
Smack your lips with your tongue.
Your breath stinks, yet
I smile anyway as you
Pull the comforter up to your chin
And tuck your hands
Beneath it, as if a child.
In the land of dreams you can be
Anything you desire.

I want to reach out and hug you
To somehow become part of
The comfort I see on your face,
Sink into your soul.
But I know it will wake you and
I do not want to disturb the
Softness of your spirit.
So instead I do the one thing
That I feel compulsion for:
One kiss on the forehead,
And then I disappear.

Beautiful..You really have a gift with poetry Jenn..you are a very deep soul and that is why you feel so much..otherwise, they would be just empty words..

So beautiful! I love your line, "Where you were, I do not know". I never thought of it that way.

Beautiful poem. I kiss my dreamer every morning before going to work. Thank you for putting it so eloquently.

Ooh! Are you revealing your secret identity? Are you The Kissing Fairy? If so, you do a world of good!

Don't you ever, ever, ever say that again Ginger! Your prose is freaking fantastic and if I never got to read it again I would definitely be sad, and miss it.
